FAQs
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis works by guiding your mind into a deeply relaxed yet focused state. It is a space between waking and sleeping often known as the alpha state. In this state, your conscious mind becomes quieter, allowing positive suggestions and new ways of thinking to be more easily accepted and integrated.
According to the American Psychological Association (APA), “Hypnosis is a therapeutic technique in which clinicians make suggestions to individuals who have undergone a procedure designed to relax them and focus their minds.”
- American Psychological Association.
What does hypnosis feel like?
Who is hypnosis not suitable for?
What if I fall asleep?
How long is a session?
Hypnosis isn’t recommended for individuals with conditions such as epilepsy or schizophrenia. The use of alcohol or certain drugs can also affect the effectiveness of the session, and in some cases, repressed memories may require a different therapeutic approach. Please reach out to discuss suitable alternative options.
Each session usually lasts about 90 minutes, though I recommend setting aside a full 2-hour window, just in case we need a little extra time.
When you're in a hypnotic state, you’ll feel deeply relaxed and completely safe to explore your emotions as we revisit moments from your life. You can still hear everything and speak while keeping your eyes closed.
It’s unlikely you’ll fall asleep because even in deep relaxation, you’ll still be able to hear my voice. Please do your best to be well-rested before your session, your participation helps ensure the best possible results of the session.
Will I remember what happened?
Yes, you’ll remember everything from the session. Hypnosis doesn’t erase or alter your memories. You may see past events in a new light, with greater understanding and clarity.
Is hypnosis safe?
Absolutely. You’ll enter hypnosis through a simple, guided relaxation process. While you may experience strong emotions during the session, you’ll always be fully supported in a safe and controlled environment.
What is my involvement during the session?
Your openness, trust, and courage are key to a successful session. I’m the guide who helps you look in the right places, but you are the explorer leading the way. As you allow your mind to naturally drift to the moments that shaped you, you open the door to new understanding and perspective.
What if the session feels too intense for me?
It’s natural for emotional work to sometimes feel overwhelming. You'll be reviewing what happened without reliving any moment of your past. It's like rewatching a movie and noticing new details. If emotions feel strong, I’ll guide you to step back and observe from a calm, safe distance, always prioritizing your comfort and wellbeing.
How do I know it works, and will the results last?
Results depend on your commitment. Listening to your personalized recording daily creates noticeable and lasting change in the issue you chose to address. Skipping or stopping early may slow progress or cause old patterns to return. For complete, lasting transformation, I recommend combining hypnosis with coaching to support real lifestyle changes that align with your new mindset and identity.
Are there any side effects?
After a session, it’s common to feel emotional or deeply tired, often followed by a very restful sleep. Many people also notice unexpected feelings of lightness, joy, or peace, as though something has shifted, even if they can’t quite explain it. Occasionally, a related issue may surface during the process. We can schedule an additional session to address the new issue if needed.
When should I seek help?
The right time is always now. Therapy supports people at every stage of life - not only when things feel hard, but also when you’re ready to grow. Even as a therapist, I am always learning and healing. There’s always more to understand, more to release, and more to become. Therapy simply helps you do it with awareness and support.
Can I do this myself?
Absolutely. Many forms of self-reflection and personal growth can happen on your own. However, when emotions feel heavy or confusing, it’s often difficult to navigate them alone. A skilled therapist provides a safe and supportive space where you can open up, process deep emotions, and be guided with openness and compassion. While self-therapy is possible, working with a professional can make the journey faster, safer, and more effective.
How do I know if I need therapy?
If you ever find yourself wondering why you react a certain way, repeat the same patterns, or feel stuck despite your best efforts, that’s a sign therapy can help. We all carry experiences and emotions that quietly shape our behavior without our awareness. Therapy helps uncover those hidden influences, bringing understanding, clarity, and real change. In truth, everyone can benefit from therapy because it’s not just about fixing problems, it’s about understanding yourself better and creating a life that feels more aligned, free and authentic to you.
What if I don't want to talk about it?
That’s completely okay. You don’t have to talk about anything you’re not ready to share. We can still work effectively by adjusting how the hypnosis session is conducted. While the process may take a little longer, meaningful change is still absolutely possible as long as you’re open to reviewing what happened internally, even without describing it out loud. Your active participation, willingness, and openness are what truly matter.
